LOCAL BOARD
FOR HALIFAX COUNTY
NORTH CAROLINA.

Halifax, N.C. February 14, 1918.

His Excellency,
Thos. W. Bickett, Govenor,
Raleigh, N.C.

Dear Sir:-

The Local Board of Halifax County desires to call your attention to the following facts.

Dr. I. E. Green, for the last forty years the leading physician of our town and community is now in his declining years, practically helpless, unable to do any walking and entirely dependent upon his automobile for conveyance.

His chaffeur a young negro is in the draft, holds a low order number and will soon be called for military service, has no claim within the jurisdiction of this board. This man has acted as Dr. Greens vallet for several years and it would be extremely difficult for the Doctor to get a man within his means to take the place of this negro boy.

In behalf of Doctor Green and knowing the situation as we do we urgently request that if within your judgment this man by your action may be excused temporarily even, we will appreciate it.

Incidentally will call attention to the fact of which you are no doubt aware, that the Doctor through his long life has been one of the most faithful party men in the state and until his death will continue his active interest.

From present indications his lease on life is short, and if any way possible his chaffeur in whom he takes deep interest can be spared him, we think his deserving life may be prolonged.

Assuring you that our interest is entirely unselfish, we are,

most respectfully,

W. T. Shaw, Chairman
S. B. Holloway, Sec’y
F. M. Parker
