Upon my request, General George W. McIver, of Camp Jackson, Columbia, S.C., has very kindly given permission for you and Berry O’Kelly, of Method, N.C., to make short patriotic speeches to the negro regiment at Camp Jackson next Sunday, February 10th. I trust that both of you can arrange to do this, for I am sure the negro soldiers would be glad to hear you and that your addresses would inspire them to more heroic service of their country. The State Council of Defense, of which Dr. D. H. Hill of Raleigh is Chairman, will pay the actual expenses incurred by you on this trip.
