Sir:-
I have a letter dated Oct. 10, 1918, signed by Thos. B. McCargo, Jr., Asst. to the Adj. Gen., stating that after a conference with you, and complying with your orders, that I was removed as Appeal Agent of Ashe. The letter stated that the reason for this action was for theis action “to insure proper execution of the Selective Service Draft Law”.
I am pleased to be relieved of the duties of this position.
However, I regard this arbitrary and unwarranted act, you, through your aid, above mentioned, placing the reason as above staed, as a gross injustice to me.
If the action of relieving me of thiese duties is pursuant to your policy of “adjourned politics” it would be more in harmony with good conscience to be plain about the matter and say so.
Already there has been too much politics played in this war and the enforcement of its regulations, and yet professing the policy of “adjourned politics”. This “adjourned politics” policy that the Democrats are carrying out tends more to foster disloyalty than all of the German propaganda.
In justice to my own self respect I demand an explanation.
