Brunswick

8. Feby. 1762.

My Lord,

I had the Honour of yours of the 9th. of October the 3d. instant acquainting me that at Mr. Pitts Request to retire from Business His Majesty had accepted of his Resignation, and that he had been graciously pleased to appoint Your Lordship Secrett. of State for the Southern Department, and to inform me that this Change will not occasion any Alterations in His Majesty's Measures in vigorously prosecuting the War.

I sincerely congratulate Your Lordship upon this distinguishing Mark of His Majesty's favour and Confidence in you at this most critical Juncture, and don't doubt but your Lordship will concur in prosecuting this glorious and necessary war with the same laudable Zeal of your Predecessor, and by the Divine Providence will be attended with the same glorious Success as his Administration, though loaded with the additional War with Spain, which I am confident if pursued will end in driving the French from this Part of the Globe, and if the Spaniards persist will also end in the Conquest of Havana, which alone wou'd make His Majesty Master of the Spanish Trade, and by offering a free Trade and Protection to the Spanish American Provinces wou'd make them throw off their confined Dependance upon Spain, and effectually humble the House of Bourbon. I hope your Lordship will pardon this Enthusiastic fire, since the Divine Providence has so remarkably declared His Majesty Christ's Vicegerent to protect the Protestant Apostolic Church and Cause of Liberty.

I shall take Care to address all my Letters to you, and inform you of every thing I shall think necessary for His Majesty's Service, and the good of this and the adjoining Colonies.

I have herewith addressed a Duplicate of my last Letter to Mr. Secretary Pitt, lest the first shod. miscarry, and have only since my last to acknowledge a Letter from Mr. Pitt of the 11th. of September acquainting me with His Majesty's happy Marriage, and one of the 28th. giving me an Account of His Majesty's Coronation, and an Order of Council of the 29. of Septembr. with the Alteration of the Form of Prayer by including Her Majesty, and have ordered a Proclamation accordingly.

I wish you all Happiness and Success in your Administration, and am with great Respect

My Lord

Your Lordships

most obedient and

most humble Servant
