My Lord—

Though I have not had the Happiness of being acquainted with your Lordship, yet as Governor of North Carolina I think it my Duty to correspond with you in Affairs relating to the Church in this Province, and at the same time to congratulate your Lordship upon your Promotion to the Diocese of London, and to wish you Happiness in that great Station attended with so great a Charge—As I have wrote lately so very fully to the Society for propagating the Gospel in foreign parts giving them an Account of the unhappy Situation of Religion in this Colony, I refer Your Lordship to it. This is chiefly intended to introduce a Gentleman to Your Lordship to be put into holy Orders, as by the inclosed Petition he has been recommended upon Trial by the Church Wardens and Vestry of the Parish in which is the Town of Wilmington in the County of New Hanover which is now destitute and without a Presbyter.

I heartily wish your Lordship Success in your Endeavours to promote true Religion in the Catholic Church & particularly in your so Extensive Diocese which is daily increasing.

I am with due Regard hoping for Your Lordship's Blessing in my Endeavours to promote true Religion and Virtue in the Protestant Apostolic Church.
