I Had yr favour with the news Papers last night by my Servant, for which I am greatly obliged to you, the good news of the taking of Cherburg and ruining the Harbour will be of future Service to us and the smart Action of Part of Prince Ferdinands Army and the Junction of our English Troops will I hope be a Prelude to farther Success. But am Sorry to find that our accounts of the King of Prussias victory are not confirmed I Hope Prince Ferdinands Success will prevent the Prince of Sanbizes progress towards Hanover or Saxony upon which Much depends.

All our accts. are that Admiral Boscawen is sailed with the great Ships for England and has left 8 Ships of the Line, to winter at Halifax under Admiral Durell. We have not yet had a particular acct of Fort du Quesne's being in our Hands tho' we may reasonably believe that it is.

I Set out to morrow for Edenton and Shall carry Govr. Fauquiers Packet to Send him from thence, which will be the Safest and Speediest Conveyance—
