Wilmington Aug. 27th. 1758

Sr,

As our Northern Post is come in I take the opportunity of the Posts going to Charles Town, to mention some of the most material news that we have had from Europe, lest you might not have any thing yet from England, and shall Refer you to the New Bern Papers, which Toomer the Postmaster tells me go with the Post, for the particulars of our Repulse upon an attack near Ticarondaga; and the List of officers and Men Killed and wounded, but hope the next attack will be made with more successVessels from Fial to New york, mention the victories which the King of Prussia has gained over the Austrians, and Prince Henry of Brunswick over Count Clarenoret; by vessels which arrived at Fial from Lisbon; which is better Confirmed by a Letter to our Attorney Genl., who is here, from a Virginia dated the 8th of August Inst: which is later than the Papers from Virginia, or the articles in the New Bern Gazette; vizThat Govr. Faulquier had Received a day or two before Certain advice; that Lewisburg was in our Handsand advices by Ships from England, which might be depended upon, that the King of Prussia had gained a Complet victory over the Austrians, and Count Daun was Killed in the action; and that the King of Prussia was within 8 Leagues govment of Vienna, where all things were in Confusion; and that Prince Ferdinand of Brunswick had entirely defeated Count Clements army, taken all their Artillery, &cThat Lord Anson had sailed with 27 Sail of the Line and 17000 men after Admiral Hawk had sailed to by off Dunkirk, to alarm them there, as if our descent was designed there; and then was to return and Join Ld. Ansons Fleet, that the Troops were Landed in France, under the Command of the Duke of Marlborough, said to be near Brest; of all which we impatiently wait for the Confirmation; by the Fial vessels it is said Admiral Altacorn has fallen in with de la Clues Squadron; has taken 3 and sunk another of 80 Guns, which I hear is true as the French Squadron was orderd to sail, and pass the Straits at all Events, the Boston article from operto; of Hawks taking 16 french men of war does not seem Consistant with our other ExpeditionsBrigadr. Forbes is on his march to Fort du Quesne; but hear the Cherokees have deserted him, and have declared they will not fight against the French; and I have a Letter from the Moravian Settlement that 2 Parties of 52, and 60, have returned by their Fort, with 60 Horses, the upper Hill Cherokees behaved Surilly and seemed desirous of quarrelling with themCaptn Bullein is gone out again, with 60 Stout Cataubas, and 30 Tuskoraras are gone from this Province Bullein brought away 2 scalps, and 2 french Prisoners, which he got on the other side of the mononghela almost within Sight of the FortHe from his ambuscade saw the French muster all their Troops upon a Reveaw, and Computes that they could not Exceed 6 or 700 in allI cant believe the amount given by the French from Monreal, that 4600 French and Indians were gone westward toward Fort du Quesne since they may want all their Forces in Canada, if they were sent, they will be undoubtedly Countermanded

If you have any other or Later news I hope you will Communicate it to meI am with great Regard
