Dear IBMer:

The success of Apollo 11 achieved the national goal, established in 1961, of landing astronauts on the Moon and returning them safely to Earth in this decade.

The flawless performance of the Saturn V launch vehicle, the command and service modules, and the lunar landing spacecraft, attested to the thoroughness and precision with which the pre-launch preparations and the launch were carried out by the dedicated Government-industry team of which you are a member. The total success of this historic mission could not have been accomplished without your contribution.

I want to express my personal appreciation for your part in this magnificent success which has earned the commendations and congratulations of the NASA Administrator, the Associate Administrator for Manned Space Flight, and many other people in all walks of life.

Knowing your capacity to meet every new assignment, I am confident that we will not rest on our laurels and will go forward successfully to conduct the lunar exploration launches and others that lie ahead of us.

Please accept with my heartfelt congratulations the enclosed certificate as a memento of the historic Apollo 11 mission.

Sincerely,

Kurt H. Debus
Director
