Whitehall 26th. July 1755.

Sir,

Govr. of Jamaica.

There being great reason to apprehend, that it may be the Intention of the Crown of France to proceed to an open Rupture, as Mr. de Mirepoix left England on Monday night last, without taking Leave, and in consequence thereof Mr. DeCosne, the English Secretary at Paris, is ordered to leave the Court of France in like manner; I cannot be too early in acquainting you therewith, and recommending it to you, to take all proper Measures for the Safety & Tranquillity of your Government, and to give immediate Notice thereof, in such manner that all His Majesty's Subjects, within your Government, may (as far as possible) be enabled to proceed with the necessary Care and Circumspection, in the present Conjuncture, and may be upon their Guard against any Mischief that may be apprehended, under these Circumstances, to their Navigation and Commerce.

You will likewise be extremely diligent in transmitting to me, for the King's Information, and That of the Lords Justices, every material Circumstance, or Intelligence that may come to your knowledge, concerning the Motions & Proceedings of the French at this Time.

I am &ca

T. Robinson

P.S. I have received your Letters of Febry. 25th. and April 13th. with an Account that the Spaniards having retired from the Settlements of His Majesty's Subjects in the Honduras, the English were returned there: As there has not been yet an Opportunity to take this Affair here into particular Consideration, I can add nothing more at present upon this Subject, than to commend your Prudence, in discouraging all Attempts, at this Time, that may be productive of Disputes with the Spaniards.
