Mrs. R. T. White,
Hertford, N.C.

Dear Mrs. White:-

Your letter just received, and I beg to say that I disclosed no name in my letter to the Exemption Board of Bertie county. I simply stated the substance of the complaint made in your letter. Of course if the Board asks for proof of these charges I shall be compelled to advise the Board that the complaining party does not care to push the matter. You will understand, of course, that I have absolutely no sympathy with the conduct of any man who in any way neglects or maltreats his wife, but if he denies that he has neglected or maltreated her he is entitled to a fair hearing before he is condemned.

Very truly yours,

[unsigned]
