My dear Judge:

I am enclosing your commission to hold a special term of court in Surry County, called for the purpose of trying the persons who are charged with participating in the mob and recent rioting in Winston-Salem. I earnestly trust you will be able to preside at this term. It will not require more than a week, if that long, I take it, to dispose of these cases.
