Letter to Govr. Dobbs in answer to one received from him of the 17th. of Febry. last, inclosing Extract of a Letter from Mr. Clevland Sec'ry to the Lords of the Admiralty.

To Arthur Dobbs Esqr., Governor of North Carolina.

Sir,

We have received your Letter to Us dated the 12th July last, transmitting a Plan of the Fort proposed by you to be built at Cape Lookout, and also a Plan of the Harbour, together with a Copy of your Letter to the Earl of Loudoun, containing an Account of the present State of North Carolina, and the Wants & defects thereof. 

As We had thought it Our Duty, when you first advised fortifying Cape Look-out, to transmit that proposal to the Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty for their Opinion upon it, We lost no time in laying before them the Plans you have now sent Us, & Also Extracts of such parts of your Letter to Lord Loudoun as relate to this Subject; and their Lordships having in consequence thereof transmitted to Us their Opinion in a Letter from Mr. Clevland to Our Sectry, We herewith inclose to you a Copy of it for your Information, <Bundle C.113.> and to acquaint you at the same time, that We have thought proper to suspend our Report upon this Proposal, untill We are acquainted with the result of the Enquiry the Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty have directed to be made.
