Wilmington 7th. March 1765

Sir

We the Commissioners for the Navigation of the Port of Cape Fear, finding it impracticable to procure Buoys in this Province for the marking out the sand heads at the entrance of this River, And hearing that General Gauge has under his direction in his Majesties Store at New York, Buoys calculated for this purpose We pray the Favour of your Excellency to apply to General Gauge to grant us three of them out of His Majesties Store, with Chains to each of Four Fathom long, or to give directions that they are made as early as possibly, and sent to this Port by the first opportunity, and payment shall be made to the Generals orders out of the Publick Money for whatever expences attends the same—
