Dear Governor:
In our haste yesterday I forgot to express to you the gratification I feel and that I think everybody feels at the very wise reply you made to the Chicago newspapers.
You have such an instinctive faculty for doing and saying the right thing at the right time that your friends do not always give you an expression of their approval, but this was a matter of such vital importance to both races that I want you to know that so far as I have traveled I have heard nothing but approval of your course.
I want to thank you too for the cordial reception and cooperation you gave us yesterday.
