THE HICKORY DEMOCRAT

HICKORY, N.C., May 8. 1913.

Gov. Locke Craig,
Raleigh, N.C.,

Dear Sir;-

I am writing you today in the interest of the R. R. which is being built from North Wilkesboro, N.C. to Boone, N.C. I am under the impression there was a promise made by our former Governor to furnish these counties with 50 convicts for the construction of this road. I have been informed that the state so far has only sent 30 convicts to aid in this work. We, the people of western N.C., will greatly appreciate any help given by the State, through our honorable Governor.

We are confident you will use your influence in this cause, as you are thoroughly familiar with the situation.

We feel that the completion of this road will be of great benefit, not only to this section, but to the entire state.

Thanking you in advance for your consideration in this matter,

I am yours truly,

E. V. Morton Editor
