Dear Governor:-
I regret ever so much that I failed to see you while in Raleigh this week.
I had several matters to discuss with you. One of these is the Mt. Mitchell Park matter. We have closed the matter by compromise and have as much land, it seems to me, as we really need. We have about $6000. left out of the $20 000. Now if you desire us to get more land and use all this fund we will condemn about 25 acres more of the very best timber on the mountain and adjacent to the lands we now have. We sent a copy of the Judgment with the voucher made out all of which you will find in the Auditors office. I wish you would examine it carefully and then advise if we shall spend all the money appropriated or not. We have not paid our attorneys as your council as suggested once by you. If you think we will stop with what we have then we will pass voucher for these attorneys and let it come out of the fund appropriated.
We acted on your suggestion as to Mrs. Connelly as you will see from the judgment.
I regret that we have been so slow about this matter as it has given me as much worry as it could possibly have given you, but circumstancies seem to have militated against us.
I shall be pleased to have your suggestions at an early date.
