T. A. MAY
R. L. C. No. 1

Elon College, N.C. August, 30th, 1920.

Honerable, T. W. Bickett.
Govener of North Carolina.

Honerable Sir:-

By this act I may be overstping the bounds of propriety and good judgment but as a law abiding citizen and one who wants to see the law carried out in a lawful maner I take this oportunity to register my protest and indignation against the outrageous and unlawful act of the mob that took the prisoner from the Officers at Graham, N.C. on Wed, Aug 22 and shot him to death while the Officers wear carring him to the Court House for tial.

Now Sir this is and was the most foul blot ever placed one the county State or the Courts of any State and cries aloud for vangence on the outraged law and in my humble opinion is a crime of great magnitude than that of the Negro as it is a case of murdering the law and defying the law abiding citzens.

Now the Officers have a guilty knowlege of the parties as the crime was commited in broad daylight and without masks or other disguise and one of the Officers J. B. Geringer of Elon College knows who part or posibly all of the mob was and if he was plced in jail with the full knowledge that he must stay their untill he could tell what he knows the informtion would soon be forth comeing.

If you have a good man you can send to Elon College to investigate this affair in my opinion you will not have anywhear else to to go as I am satisfyed I can lay my hand on at least three if not four and possibly more but as I haven't the proof and am not likely to get it it must be left to som one else. Now I will supliment any reward the State or County may offer with and aditional $50.00 for the arrest and conviction of the mob or any of its members as the law must be upheld and mob voilence kept down.

Now I crave your Exelencys pardon for trespsing on your valuable time but it is my desire to see the law upheld and all guilty of transgressing the law punished in proposion to their crimes.

Yours to Comand at any time or place.

Yours Most Humble Servant.

T. A. May

P.S. Now this confidential and would like for it to be held as such as its publication might and possibly would get me into trouble as I have already been threatoned for denouncing the act of the mob, I would deem it a favor to keep thisstrictly confidential as I dont want any but if it should come I am prepaired for it.
