Quite late, and I feeling as if it were perfectly useless for me to attempt to “catch time”—but if I let to-night slip I cannot say, when I will have another spare moment, in fact it is time I was in bed now for I will be busy all day, and have taken such a long nap this evening, I don’t feel at all sleepy—But to begin, and do my best at remembering—The first thing I remember is Friday evening 21st of April, Minnie Lord came home with the children, who went to dancing school—late in the evening we, Min & I, went down after them—and I was astonished at finding Mr Engelhard at Mr Tuckers store—we took the children, & went to ride—after tea Mr Engelhard came up and spent the evening, Saturday morning I went with him to call on Mollie Badger. I had a dreadful headache—in the evening Min & I went down town up to Mr Smedes, then to the dancing school, I had not been there long before I had the tooth ache dreadfully, and I am very glad to say, I did go to Dr Scotts, & have my tooth taken out, at least—came home rather late—Mr Tucker and Mr Engelhard started up to see us, but we had a very hard rain, which prevented. I wrote Mr Engelhard a note, sending Mr John Grimes some wine, so much, I fear it made him “light”—Sunday I was sick all day—Monday I have forgotten. O! yes I remember I felt quite badly all day, Tuesday did not feel well—after ten Col. Mr. & Dr Tucker all came up to see us—I received a letter from ___ which—astonished me very much—I wish I had time to write some of my feelings, on reading, but no if I had hours, I could or would not do it—I will only say that I have thought a great deal, and I believe it is the cause of my feeling sick, and badly—but I will not write any more about it for it makes me sad to think of it—Wednesday I got up in the morning feeling very badly, and sad, but felt, so sick that I went to bed, which I had us sooner done, than Cousin Haywood, Cousin Ann, & their little son came—they two or three days—Mother was in town, and Grandmama not dressed, so I had to make my toilet as soon as I could to welcome them to our house—just as soon as Mother came, I again went to bed, and I felt so badly all day—but I got up about nine, and answered that letter, feeling all the time very weak and sick, it was nearly two when I went to bed, I know it made me worse, but I did not care, for I could not sleep any way—about day, I was so sick that I had to send down for Mother to come up—I did not get better ‘till nine, and was not able to go down ‘til Saturday, and then I felt far from well—Thursday morning I wrote Annie Grimes, a long letter, and on reading the one I had written the night before, I did not like it, so I wrote another and by that time sitting up in bed, I was perfectly worn out—Mother gave me a scolding for writing Annie—It rained so hard after all that I was not able to send it off before Saturday morning Mr Boyden and Willie Lord came up, & spent the morning—we were all invited to Cousin Sallie Hogg’s to dine some went, I did not feel able—Mr Boyden & Willie took tea with me, & then went up to St Marys, as Mr Swedes had invited them, with Cousin H, & our family—Mr Boyden gave me, or at least brought up some cravats for me to select, for some young gentleman—I did so, and now intend hemming them, don’t know who they are, yes one is one is Bauer from Va – "F.J.L." surely—Sunday attended Church, morning and evening, Mollie walked out home with me. Cousins Sallie & Maria were here, they did not stay long—Monday morning Cousin Haywood, wife Nannie, & all left—I forgot to say that I wrote Cousin Jesse the greatest news in the shape of a letter I ever saw, I don’t wonder he does not answer it – After they left Monday I forget what I did—know I felt quite badly—Tuesday morning I rode with the children to school, stopped at the office, received two letters one from Jennie Jones & the other in answer to the one I wrote—After I came home forgotten how I employed the day, nearly all in thinking I expect—Wednesday I felt so weak, and badly, I thought I would ride down with Mother and Grandmama—but felt so badly thought I would have to return, when we heard that Coz & Cousin John would be with us that night—It helped me I know, I was so glad—came home about dinner time—Cousin John and Coz came about five, and we were all so delighted to see them—they both look like old times, but I can’t get used to them being really married.

Wednesday night Mollie, Annie, and Cousin Dick came up to see them—and Mr Tucker, I get his pardon—after they left, and we had all talked for some time, it was quite late—I did not go to sleep ‘til very late, I set up attempting to answer that letter but found I was too much excited, for after man fruitless attempts, I had to give up and go to bed, but not to sleep, for it was nearly day when I did sleep—Thursday morning, but I declare it would be perfectly useless for me to commence with the calls &c to-night—for I must off, to bed, sleep, and dream, I hope—I will try & write again to-morrow—if nothing prevents, but I have had little or not time to call my own, since their arrival—It is now nearly 12, and every body in bed long ago—I will have to be up early in the morning, as I wish to ride up to the school for a little exercise, for I feel far from well—so good night—
