John Stanwix (1690 - 1766) was a British politician and high ranking army officer. In 1756, Stanwix was sent the American colony where commanded the Royal American Regiment and oversaw the construction of Fort Stanwix and Fort Pitt. In 1759, he was in charge of the defense of Pennsylvania's western border. Stanwix returned to England in 1760.
