Charles Henry Ireland, Sr. was born on March 12, 1859, in Lovingston, Virginia. Ireland was a businessman in Lynchburg before moving to North Carolina in 1882. He was a longtime resident of Greensboro, where he was president and general manager of the Odell Hardware Company, which company he helped to establish in 1884. Ireland died in Melbourne, Florida, on March 22, 1932.
