Leon Theodore Lane was born on July 17, 1871, in Chatham County, North Carolina. Lane served as sheriff of Chatham from 1910 until 1920, when he resigned to campaign for election to the legislature. Lane won and took his seat in 1921. He died in Matthews (Chatham County) on November 2, 1941.
