Biographical Description

Richard Spaight (1730-1763) was a colonial official in New Bern who served as secretary and clerk of the crown for North Carolina (1755-circa 1762). During the French and Indian War, he served as paymaster for the North Carolina regiment. He was the nephew of royal governor Arthur Dobbs.
