Horace Leonard Jones was born on March 15, 1879, in Sneedville, Tennessee. Jones was a professor at Cornell University who served as director of the War Camp Community Service on the Virginia Peninsula during World War I. He died in Atlanta, Georgia, on October 31, 1954.
