Biographical Description

Pierre de Rigaud de Vaudreuil de Cavagnial (1698-1778), Marquis de Vaudreuil, was a Canadian-born French colonial official who served as governor of French Louisiana (1743-1753) and as the governor-general of New France (1755-1760). During the Seven Years' War, Vaudreuil was forced to surrender Montreal to British forces.
