Mary McCrorey (née Jackson) was born on November 9, 1867, in Athens, Georgia. She was a lifelong educator and civic leader and longtime resident of Charlotte, North Carolina, where her husband Dr. Henry L. McCrorey was president of Johnson C. Smith University. She died on January 13, 1944, in Charlotte (Mecklenburg County).
