Biographical Description

William Cumming (1724-1797) was a lawyer and politician from Chowan County. In 1777 and 1778 he signed two oaths swearing his allegiance to the State of North Carolina and promised to report any treasonous conspiracies that might threaten North Carolina's independence. He later represented Chowan County in the North Carolina General Assembly and at the Continental Congress.
