Charles Jordan was a resident of Chowan County. According to a law passed by the North Carolina General Assembly, he was supposed to appear and sign an oath swearing his allegiance to the State of North Carolina in 1778. He did not appear in the required timeframe to sign the oath, but he was excused due to his advanced age.
