Biographical Description
John Alexander Gilmer was born in Greensboro (Guilford County), North Carolina, on April 22, 1838. Gilmer was an attorney, Confederate veteran, state legislator (1870-1871) representing Guilford and Alamance counties, and superior court judge (1879-1890). He died in Greensboro on March 17, 1892.
