Biographical Description

William Leftwich was born in about 1737. A resident of Bedford County, Virginia, he served in the state militia during the French and Indian War and later became a captain and lieutenant colonel in the Bedford County Militia during the American Revolution. He led troops on an expedition under Colonel Andrew Lewis to attack American Indians on Virginia's western frontier. He died on Bedford County on May 31, 1820.
