Biographical Description
George Washington Brooks was born in Elizabeth City, Pasquotank County, North Carolina on March 16, 1821. A lawyer, he became a member of the state legislature and served as the state comptroller. He later served as a U.S. District Judge after the Civil War. He died in Elizabeth City on January 6, 1882.
