Biographical Description

Andrew Broughton was born in South Carolina in about 1700. The son of South Carolina's colonial governor, Broughton started a legal suit in 1736 to recover Cyrus, an enslaved American Indian carpenter that had escaped from him and ended up in John Glover's custody in Bertie Precinct, North Carolina. He died in Berkley County, South Carolina in about January 1742.
