Biographical Description

During the Seven Years War, Ireland-born William Johnson (circa 1715 - 1774) commanded the colonial militia and allied Indian forces in New York. In 1755, he was appointed Superintendent of Indian Affairs for the northern American colonies and commissioned a major general in the provincial British army.
