Biographical Description

Melvin Lucien White was born on June 8, 1857, in Kentucky. White came to North Carolina in 1882, where he served as a school teacher for 45 years. He was well known as a prolific editorial contributor to state newspapers, publishing his thoughts under the pen name of "Corn Cracker." White died in Polkville (Cleveland County) on May 19, 1932.
