William Roy Hampton was born on September 7, 1889, in Plymouth, North Carolina. Upon registering for the draft in June 1917 for service during World War I, Hampton claimed three dependents, his wife and two children. He declared himself to be a banker, fisherman, and merchant and had two years of prior military service with the North Carolina Naval Militia. Hampton died in Plymouth on January 24, 1951.
