William Richardson Dempster was born in Ireland on January 12, 1808 and moved to the United States in 1835, where he made a career as a ballad singer. He traveled throughout the country, stopping several times in Raleigh, North Carolina to sing in front of audiences in concert halls. He died in London, England on March 7, 1871.
