Biographical Description

Charles Evander Spencer was born on September 12, 1871, in North Carolina. He held various jobs over the course of his life, including sawyer, filling station proprietor, and laborer at an aluminum plant. In 1919, while a foreman employed by the Tallassee Power Company in Badin, North Carolina, he was accused of brutally assaulting a Black employee under his supervision with a sledge hammer handle. Spencer died in Asheboro (Randolph County) on October 4, 1937.
