My Dear Governor-

I have a son, George Randolph Scott who graduated last June and with some of his comrades immediately joined the 5th Artilery which is now located at Fort Caswell.

He was selected for the Officer’s training camp, but when it was discovered that he was only 20 years old (not 21) he was rejected.

He is a very large fellow physically, being 6 feet and three inches tall and about 200 pounds in weight.

What I would like for you to do, if you can, is to assist me in obtaining a special permit from the proper military authorities for him to enter the Officer’s training camp. I do not know what authority to appeal, but I beleive the permission will have to be granted by Secy. Baker or the President.

I feel that a boy who has the education he has and a considerable military experience and is 6 ft -3 Inches tall and weighs nearly 200 pounds, that the fact he is 20 years old and not 21 the age required, it is sufficient to ask the authorities for special permission for him to enter the camp for training as officer.

If you can do anything along the line indicated I shall appreciate same.

As the training schools are being opened now I would regard it as a special favor if you will make the request promptly.

With kind personal wishes,

Yours very truly,

Geo. G. Scott.
