STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA
THE ADJUTANT GENERAL'S DEPARTMENT
RALEIGH

August 30, 1918.

To Honorable Thos. W. Bickett,
Governor of North Carolina.

My dear Governor:

On this the eve of my departure for service in the field, I wish to take this opportunity to express to you my grateful appreciation of the many courtesies and kindnesses accorded me during the time I have served as your Adjutant General.

It has indeed been a pleasure and a privilege to serve under you as Commander-in-Chief. Your earnest and careful consideration of all matters pertaining to the Adjutant General’s Department has enabled me to perform the duties involved with a confidence which has brought satisfactory results.

It is with a feeling of profound regret that I separate myself from your administration, the record of which will be pointed to with pride by this and future generations in this state. Mothers will tell their children of the greatness of Thomas Walter Bickett, War Governor of North Carolina.

With expressions of great respect, I have the honor to be,

Yours obediently,

Laurence W. Young
