Sir,
I received your Excellency's Letter yesterday Evening, and have forwarded your Packett to Govr. Fauquier by Express, tho' I hope by this early Discovery of the Plot we may blow up their Scheme, yet we ought to be upon our Guard. The good News I sent you by Sea two days ago of our taking Ticonderoga, and landing safe near Quebec without Opposition, and our attacking fort Niagara will defeat the French and Cherokee Schemes—I had before sent Major Waddell with a Detachment of 70 Men to the Frontier, and gave him a Command over 3 Regiments of Militia on that frontier or as many as he shou'd find necessary; so shall do all in my power to assist and defend the back Settlers. I hope our having taken and carried into Plimouth 4 French Ships of the Line, I suppose the Rockfort Squadron will defeat their pretended Invasion.

P.S. By an Express sent me from New Bern which arrived late last night I Received dispatches via New York which came by Sea to New Bern which left New York the 12th Instant and a private Letter and Print of the 6th and am now to congratulate yr. Excellency upon the Retreat of the French from Tienderoga and Crown Point after blowing up the fortifications of Both the 27th & 29th of July and Genl Amherst’s pursuing them toward Montreal after the reducing of which he was to go to Quebec to join Genl. Wolf &c. Brigadier Prideaux was killed upon bursting of a cohern. Sr William Johnston took the Command and after destroying a Body of 1500 French and Indians who came to relieve them from Venango &c. The Fort Capitulated and was in our Hands the 27th Genl. Amhersts Aid du Camp went Express from New York with this great news the 6th Instant all the Indians have signed a Confirmed Peace with us at Pitsburg the 15th of July—this I hope will prevent the Cherokee designs and we may now Speak Strongly to them—
