Sir,

I Take the Opportunity of an Officer, who is going to Charles Town, to Acknowledge your Letters of the 2d. & 29th September, the former of which I received by the Vessell that brought the Recruits, and the latter came to hand about Ten Days ago.

I have no Doubt but your Conduct in Advancing the Money to Raise the Recruits; when the Province Refused to Comply with the Kings Requisition on that Head, will meet with the Approbation of His Majesty's Ministers And I have made a Report thereof, not only the Secretary of State, but also to the Lords Commissioners of the Treasury.

Lieut: Williames is not yet Arrived; so that I can say Nothing in regard to the Monies he has Advanced to the Recruits: They however cannot Receive more than Six pence Sterling ⅌ Diem from the King.

From what you Write me concerning Mr. Dalrymple, I Conclude he is not in his Senses, And as he has obtained a New Commission, owing I presume to their now knowing at home his former Behavior, I think the best method that can be taken with him, is, for you to transmit an Account of his Behavior, and the Circumstances Attending his Appointment, to the Secretary at War, who, I Doubt not may have his Majesty's Commands for Cancelling the Commission; for as to Trying him by a General Court Martial, the Scattered manner in Which the Troops at present are Stationed, puts it out of my power to Assemble One, in your Province: And your Application, as above, I am perswaded would have the Desired Effect.
