I have just received your agreable Letter of the 26th. past, and sincerely and heartily congratulate you upon the Success of his Majesty’s Arms under your Command by the taking fort Du Quesne without Effusion of Blood by your Prudence and Conduct in previously engaging the Indians in a Neutrality, and bringing them to desire and submit to his Majesty’s Protection, and hope it will be attended by the Assistance of the Indians with their quitting their forts of Vinango and Presque Isle as well as Le Droit and others to the Southward of Lake Erie. 

I have wrote to General Amherst to desire he wou’d make the proportion of our share of the £50000 which I expect will be at least £15000, and told him how much this Province is obliged to you for your advancing the pay to our Troops upon the Credit of that Fund, and hope you will also press him to lose no time in fixing it that we may restore to your fund the Sum you have advanced.
