Thomas Samuel Ashe was born on July 19, 1812 near Graham (Alamance County), North Carolina. Ashe was a lawyer, state legislator, and enslaver who served as a member of the Confederate Congress, as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, and as an associate justice on the state supreme court. He died in Wadesboro (Anson County) on February 4, 1887.
