John Sloan was born in Pennsylvania on August 2, 1740. A resident of Salisbury, North Carolina, he served on the local Committee of Safety. Later Sloan became a captain in the Rowan County Regiment of the North Carolina Militia. He died at the Battle of Ramseur's Mill on June 20, 1780.
