Biographical Description

George Parton was born around 1850 in North Carolina. Parton worked as a laborer and resided in Wake County, North Carolina. Parton was charged with larceny and receiving on August 12, 1878, and sentenced to five years in the North Carolina State Penitentiary. Parton was recorded in the North Carolina State Penitentiary's Descriptive Register for the Years 1869-1884 as prisoner number 2813. In the descriptive register, Parton's race is noted as Black. Parton was twenty-eight years old when he was arrested. Parton was noted as possessing no formal education, meaning he could not read or write at that time. During his incarceration, Parton was leased to the Western North Carolina Railroad Company to work on railroad construction. He died while imprisoned on June 6, 1879.
