John Pyle was born in Chester County, Pennsylvania on April 8, 1723. He moved to the Quaker community of Cane Creek, North Carolina, though the degree of Pyle's devotion to the Quakers is unclear. Pyle became heavily involved in the Regulator Movement and served later as a Loyalist in the American Revolution (a blatant disregard of the Quaker faith). In a letter from Governor William Tryon to the Quakers of Orange County, Tryon specifically requests a wagon of flour be confiscated from Pyle. Pyle died in Cane Creek on January 1, 1804.
