Biographical Description

James Leslie (circa 1720-1781) was an Irish immigrant, merchant, and a founder of the town of Halifax who operated a ferry across the Roanoke River. During the Revolution, Leslie sided with the Patriot cause and was part of the Committee of Safety for the Halifax District in 1775.
