William Mackey was a deputy marshal for Chowan County, North Carolina and operated Mackey's Ferry over the Albemarle Sound. As a marshal, he was responsible for enforcing the court's orders and serving warrants. In 1755, he joined other merchants, traders, and planters in petitioning the Board of Trade for relief on trade restrictions. He died in about 1769.
