Biographical Description

John Stuart Johnston was born on February 7, 1870, in Sparta, Illinois. Johnston was a career army officer who served during the Spanish-American War and in the Philippines. During World War I, he was an adjutant general assigned to the office of the Adjutant General of the Army, then held by Henry P. McCain. Johnston died in Fort Worden, Washington, on August 19, 1921.
