Biographical Description

Nathan Bedford Forrest was born in Chapel Hill, Tennessee on July 13, 1821. Forrest served as a Confederate cavalry general during the Civil War. After the war, Forrest became the first leader of the Ku Klux Klan, a white supremacist group which organized to terrorize freedmen and republican citizens. He died in Memphis, Tennessee on October 29, 1877.
