Biographical Description

Elizabeth Durham was a resident of Johnston County, North Carolina. A widow, Durham's original last name is unknown. Durham was an owner of enslaved people and in 1779 one of Durham's enslaved people, a woman named Hannah, gave Durham a medicinal powder intended to make Durham treat the enslaved people more nicely. Durham died sometime after 1784.
